Altkalen

Altkalen is a municipality in the eastern part of the district of Rostock in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern ( Germany ). The municipality is the Office Gnoien, located in the eponymous city, managed.

Geography

The community Altkalen lies in a hilly area near the Peene source between the small towns Gnoien, Dargun and Neukalen. The Lake Kummerow and the Mecklenburg Switzerland are about 10 km away. Through the municipal area, which borders the district of Mecklenburg Lake District in the east, flows next to the Peene the Vurzbach. The varied landscape is also of small lakes ( New Pannekower and Pfarrsee ) and 4000 year old megalithic graves marked ( in Lüchower forest and moor in the post ). The highest elevation is 46 m above sea level. NN between Altkalen and the village dam.

To Altkalen include the districts Alt Pannekow, dam, Granzow, combs Rich, Kleverhof, Lüchow, New Pannekow and Rey.

History

Kalen is first mentioned in a document of 1174. The term " calendar " is of Slavic origin and means "swamp ", " quagmire ". After 1236 the town was Kalen, also called " calendering " (today Altkalen ), located on the trade route from Szczecin to Rostock, Prince Heinrich Borwin III. developed as a city with a strong attachment to Rostock. The new city was given lands and she was awarded the 1253 Lubeck city law. But already in 1281 the municipal law is removed from the site. The Prince Waldemar of Rostock founded about ten kilometers to the south, near the village Bugelmast to a strategically much more important place Neukalen. The old calendar was back to a village to Altkalen.

On 1 January 1999 Kleverhof was incorporated.

  • The village church Altkalen was built in the second half of the 13th century in place of a predecessor structure and has very old wall and ceiling paintings on.
  • The Dutch windmill in Altkalen is the only regularly producing windmill Mecklenburg -Vorpommern. The mill was with parts of a broken mill Wittenförden rebuilt after a fire the previous mill in 1913 and extensively renovated from 1991 to 2002.

Traffic

In all directions lead of Altkalen from good roads. The connection points of Ticino and jellied bath on the main highway 20 are both 22 kilometers away. The nearest railway station is located in the 20 km southern city of Malchin on the railway line Güstrow Neubrandenburg.
