Nettuno is an entity belonging to the province of Rome in the Italian community Lazio with 45 826 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). The once little important fishing settlement on the Tyrrhenian Sea and is now regarded as a seaside resort.
The name of the place goes back to the god Neptune, which was said to be consecrated at the site of the present church of San Giovanni a temple. In the 9th century are said to have lived here for Saracens. On the still visible today ancient port of Torre Astura was built in the 12th century.
