Tarnow, Germany

Tarnow is a municipality in the west of the district of Rostock in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern ( Germany ). It is administered by the Office Biitzow country with headquarters in the city Biitzow.

Geography

The territory south of the city of Tarnow Biitzow extends from Warnowtal in an arc across a forested ground moraine until the fog valley. The Lurrbarg is at 67 m above sea level. Sea level, the highest point in the area around Tarnow. Between Tarnow and the village Zernin lies the community Dreetz.

History

Already in 1223 emerged the local name that comes from the Slavic word for thorn on in a document. In the 14th century the church was built in Tarnow, one of the few two-aisled in Mecklenburg. Tarnow was up to the resolution of 31 December 2004 the administrative seat of the Office stone dance Warnowtal. The volunteer fire department in Tarnow is responsible as a fire brigade outside the municipal area for tasks. In the village there is a daycare center, a shooting club and a carnival club.

  • Gothic, two-span, four-bay village church Tarnow from the 14th century.
  • A tourist feature is the large stone grave in Tarnów forestry and the 3000 year old prehistoric cult and burial site near the village of Boitin - the Boitiner stone dance. There can be seen from the first half of the 14th century also a church.
  • Memorial for Ernst Thalmann and Rudolf Breitscheidstraße, both were murdered in 1944 in Buchenwald concentration camp, in the village center.

Transport links

The municipality is located on road connecting Biitzow according to Goldberg. By Prüzen three kilometers away leads the federal highway 104 ( Güstrow - Schwerin ). The nearest train station is in the nearby town Biitzow.
