2012 UCI Road World Championships
The 79th UCI Road World Championships were held in the Dutch province of Limburg from 15 to 23 September 2012.
It was the sixth road cycling world championships, held in the Netherlands; before that was in 1998 Valkenburg aan de Geul venue, which is also in Limburg. The race of the discipline one - road driving led in 2012 by Valkenburg ( see below quote ).

Innovations
The competitions were subject to a number of changes.
After 1994, a team time trial was first performed again, the teams consisted of professional teams of six riders together. The participation of the UCI ProTeam was there binding. Other teams qualified according to the intermediate levels of the UCI rankings August 15, 2012: At the invitation were the first 20 European teams in the UCI Europe Tour, the first five American or Asian the UCI America Tour and UCI Asia Tour and the respective first African and oceanic UCI Africa Tour and UCI Oceania Tour participate. In the women's race started at the invitation of the first 20 UCI Women's Team of the UCI World Ranking.
The Junior Road World Championships, which were in a separate contest held since 2004, were re- held within the framework of the World Cup. Course
The course for the individual road race in the different categories ( except for the junior women) consisted of a 100 -kilometer route through the province of Limburg and a subsequent 16.5 km long round of Valkenburg, which ended behind the Cauberg.

After winning the title in the team time trial on Sunday, Tony Martin on Wednesday took his second World Cup in 2012, in which he repeated his victory of 2011. 58 drivers took part in rainy and windy weather on the 44.6 km long route from Heerlen to Valkenburg, on the Bundersberg and the Cauberg two slopes had to be overcome. With the Swiss Olympic champion in 2008 and four times world time trial champion Fabian Cancellara and the British time trial Olympic champion of 2012 Bradley Wiggins was two favorites, so that Martin initially feared only the Spaniard Alberto Contador, Vuelta winner of 2012, as closest rivals. This proved to be fast as unfounded, because after 31 kilometers, Martin, who had been sent as the last in the race, overtaking the Spaniard started two minutes before him. As a stubborn opponent instead proved the 22 -year-old U.S. drivers Taylor Phinney. This was 14.3 four seconds faster than Martin at the first time check at kilometer. Only after about 30 kilometers, the German was 14 seconds in front of the U-23 World Champion of 2010. Two days after winning the silver medal in the team time trial, the 36 -year-old Judith Arndt stood as the defending champion in the time trial on Tuesday afternoon. The race took place in Eijsden on a 24.3 km long course. The riders had to cope with the 1200 -meter rise of the Cauberg as with the men before the finish, but were helped by a tailwind. In the 42 starters were missing field Olympic gold medalist Kristin Armstrong of the USA, the Olympic bronze medalist Olga Zabelinskaya from Russia and the local favorite Marianne Vos. So Judith Arndt went as the undisputed favorite in the race, defending champion as Last of the participants. At a speed of 44.6 km / h drove a superior fastest and secured their fourth World Cup title with a lead of 33 seconds over the second-placed Evelyn Stevens from the United States. Ina- Yoko Teutenberg finished sixth and Trixi Worrack eighth completed the good result of the German women.
