Cussey-sur-l'Ognon

Cussey -sur- l'Ognon is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Cussey -sur- l'Ognon is located at 225 m, about 13 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located on the southern edge of the Ognon valley opposite Etuz, amid the rolling countryside in the extreme northwest of the Doubs.

The area of ​​7.55 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Ognon Valley. The western and northern boundary runs along the Ognon as it flows with several turns by about 1.5 kilometers wide, flat Talniederung. From the river, the municipality's area extends south across the wide, formerly marshy flood plain to the adjacent gently undulating landscape. This is partly consisted of arable and meadow land, partly by forest. To the south is the vast forest area of the Bois de Cussey. On a hilltop in this forest is the highest elevation of Cussey -sur- l'Ognon is achieved with 256 m. In the southwest, the area covers the lower portion of the Ruisseau des Moulins and extends to the edge of the Bois du Grand Bugnoz.

Neighboring communities of Cussey -sur- l'Ognon are Etuz and Boulot in the north, Geneuille in the east, Auxon lingerie in the south and Sauvagney and Chambornay -lès- Pin in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages the town was mentioned under the name Cuscei. During the Franco-German War Cussey -sur- l'Ognon 1870 was the scene of fighting between the advancing German troops and the French army which defeated the imminent capture of the city of Besançon in October of this year. Today Cussey -sur- l'Ognon part of the community association Communauté de communes du Val de la Dame Blanche.

The village church of Cussey -sur- l'Ognon was built in the 18th century in classical style.

Population

With 961 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Cussey -sur- l'Ognon is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the range of 160 to 230 people, a striking population growth was recorded since the early 1970s. Since then emerged on the outskirts numerous single-family homes, and the population has quadrupled.

Economy and infrastructure

Cussey -sur- l'Ognon was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community.
