Uthai Thani Province

Uthai Thani ( Thai: อุทัยธานี ) is a province ( Changwat ) in the southern part of the northern region of Thailand. The capital of the province of Uthai Thani Uthai Thani is also called.

Geography

The province extends from the level of the Chaophraya Maenam up to the gently rising mountain ranges in the west, which are covered with lush evergreen forest.

The Huai Kha Kaeng Wildlife Reserve - to located on the western border of the province of Tak, is since 1991 a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It covers about 2,600 square kilometers and is home to virtually all native to the forest species in Southeast Asia, including tigers and elephants.

The climate is tropical and monsunal.

Population

In Phichit mainly Thais live. In addition, however resettlement of descendants of deported by the Siamese from Laos bonded laborers, those whose total number is khrang Lao in Thailand at 53,000.

History

Originally settled Mon and Lawa in the area. During the Sukhothai period, the city was founded as the first U Thai Tai settlement. The town was abandoned when the river changed its direction. Karen A chief called pata Beut revived the settlement again and put them during the Ayutthaya period in its current location on. They built also a fort that served as a border defense against the frequent attacks by the Burmese.

In 2008, the "Gross Provincial Product" was (gross domestic product) of the province of 21,107 million baht. The minimum wage in the province is 168 baht per day ( about 4 € ).

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of the province shows the pavilion of Wat Khao Sakae Krang. The temple ( Wat ) houses the statue of Thong Tue, father of the future King Phra Phutthayotfa Chulaloke ( Rama I ), the founder of the still reigning Chakri dynasty. The mountains in the background symbolize the location of the temple on a mountain.

The local tree is the Yellow Cotton Tree ( Cochlospermum regium ). The local flower is the neem tree ( Azadirachta indica v. siamensis ).

  • Wat Sankat Rattana Khiri - with an old bronze Buddha image from the Sukhothai period
  • Wat Ubosatharam - octagonal mehrgiebliges roof and an exhibition of artifacts from the area

  • Wat Tham Khao Wong - beautiful temple in the middle of a valley, two-story meeting hall

The province is divided into eight districts ( Amphoe ), divide further into 70 communes ( tambon) and 589 villages ( Muban ).

In the province there is a standt ( เทศบาล เมือง - thesaban Mueang ) Uthai Thani ( เทศบาล เมือง อุทัยธานี ). In addition, there are 10 small towns ( เทศบาล ตำบล - thesaban tambon).
