Buchanan County (Missouri)

The Buchanan County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. In 2010, the County had 89 201 inhabitants and a population density of 84.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Saint Joseph.

With the County's Andrew and DeKalb in Missouri and Doniphan County, Kansas Buchanan is on St. Joseph Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

The County is located in northwest Missouri on the Missouri River, which forms the border with Kansas. It has a total area of 1074 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water surface. At the Buchanan County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Buchanan County was formed on December 31, 1838 in the field, the new was added to the state of Missouri by the disc Purchase.

After it originally was called Roberts County (after settler Hiram Roberts), it was later named after James Buchanan ( 1791-1868 ), a former foreign minister ( 1853-1856 ) and president ( 1857-1861 ) of the United States.
