Ozark County, Missouri

The Ozark County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. In 2010, the County had 9723 inhabitants and a population density of 5.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Gainesville.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme south of Missouri in the Ozarks and borders Arkansas.

It has an area of 1956 square kilometers, of which 33 square kilometers are water surface.

In the southwest, the County share of the Bull Shoals Lake, a reservoir of the White River. The further east Norfork Lake was created by damming the North Fork River, which flows through the county from north to south.

History

The Ozark County was formed in 1841. It was named after the Ozark Mountains. From 1843 to 1845, the county was renamed in Decatur County, named after the naval officer Stephen Decatur.
