Fulton County (Arkansas)

The Fulton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Salem. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in the Ozark Plateau in the extreme north of Arkansas, bordered to the north Missouri and has an area of 1,607 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surfaces. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

2000 2010

The Fulton County was formed on December 21, 1842 from parts of Izard County. It was named after William Savin Fulton (1795-1844), the last Governor of the Arkansas Territory (1835-1836) and one of the first two U.S. senators from the new state ( 1836-1844 ).

Demographic data

According to the census in 2010 lived in Fulton County 12,245 people in 4,461 households. The population density was 7.6 people per square kilometer.
