Poinsett County, Arkansas

The Poinsett County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. In 2010, the County had 24,583 inhabitants and a population density of 12.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Harrisburg.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern Arkansas and the east is about 30 km from the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Tennessee. It has an area of 1,977 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water surface. Within the county of Little River flows into the St. Francis River. History

The Poinsett County was formed on February 28, 1838 from parts of Greene County and St. Francis County.

It was named after Joel Roberts Poinsett (1779-1851), a former U.S. - Minister of War (1837-1841) and renowned amateur botanist.
