Montgomery County (Arkansas)

History

The Montgomery County was formed on December 9, 1842 from parts of the Hot Spring County. It was named after Richard Montgomery (1738-1775), a Revolutionary War hero ded.

From 1842 to 1850, Montgomery the county seat. In July 1850, the name was changed in Salem and in October of the same year in Mount Ida, after the same post office. The final Countygrenzen were determined only in 1925.
