Prairie County (Arkansas)

The Prairie County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Des Arc.

Geography

The County is located in east-central Arkansas and has an area of 1,750 square kilometers, of which 77 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Prairie County was formed on November 25, 1846 from parts of Monroe County and Pulaski County. It was named after the characteristic prairie land throughout the County.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Prairie County, 9,539 people in 3,894 households and 2,795 families. The population density was 6 people per square kilometer.
