Hempstead County, Arkansas

The Hempstead County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hope. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in southwest Arkansas, is in the southwest about 25 km from Texas, the west about 50 miles from Oklahoma, in the south about 50 miles from Louisiana and has an area of 1920 square kilometers, of which 33 square kilometers are water surface. History

The Hempstead County was formed on December 15, 1818 from parts of Arkansas County. It was named after Edward Hempstead (1780-1817), of the Missouri from 1812 to 1814 - U.S. Territory - represented the House of Representatives.
