Marion County (Arkansas)

The Marion County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Yellville. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme north of Arkansas, bordered to the north Missouri and has an area of 1,658 square kilometers, of which 110 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

2000 2010

The Marion County was formed on September 25, 1836 from parts of Izard County as Searcy County and in 1836 in honor of Francis Marion ( 1732-1795 ), a general in the American Revolutionary War, renamed.

Yellville, the county seat, was taken over by white settlers by the Indians and is one of the oldest settlements in the USA. In the past, Yellville was under Spanish, French and American management. Then it belonged to Louisiana - territory for Missouri - Territory and later to Arkansas - territory.
