Izard County, Arkansas
The Izard County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat), Melbourne. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Geography
The County is located north of Arkansas, is located in the north about 40 miles from Missouri and has an area of 1,513 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:
History
2000 2010
The Izard County was formed on October 27, 1825 from parts of Independence County as the 13th County. It was named after George Izard (1776-1828), the second governor of Arkansas - Territory ( 1825-1828 ).
Demographic data
According to the census in 2010 lived in Izard County 13,696 people in 5,715 households. The population density was 9.1 people per square kilometer.
The racial the population was composed of 95.8 percent white, 1.3 percent African American, 0.8 percent Native American, 0.3 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.3 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 1.5 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
