DeKalb County (Missouri)

DeKalb County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. In 2010, the County had 12,892 inhabitants and a population density of 11.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Maysville.

The County is part of the St. Joseph Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern Missouri and is in the west about 40 miles from Nebraska and Kansas away. It has an area of 1103 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. At the DeKalb County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

DeKalb County was formed on February 25, from parts of Clinton County. It was named after Johann de Kalb (1721-1780), a German -born general of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2010 lived in DeKalb County 12,892 people in 3961 households. The population density was 11.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 3961 households lived statistically 2.47 per person.

The racial the population was composed of 86.6 percent white, 11.7 percent African American, 0.5 percent Native American, 0.3 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 0.8 percent were descended from two or more races.
