World Champion was the Scot John Higgins, who won the final against Mark Selby. Defending champion from last year was Graeme Dott, who has already retired in round one, 2008.

First round
At 17, Judd Trump was the youngest participant in the finals. The oldest player was the six-time world champion Steve Davis 49 years.
