Cortenuova

Corte Nuova is a town with 1976 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) southeast of Bergamo, in the province of Bergamo.

Cortenuova was mentioned in the late 9th century as a royal residence of the Carolingians and belonged to the bishops of Bergamo, since the 11th century the local counts since 915. The place was famous by the battle of Corte Nuova that there on 27-28. November 1237 took place. It ended with the defeat of the Lombard League and the victory of Emperor Frederick II

The city itself was destroyed after the victory of the imperial troops, the population had fled to surrounding villages. Cortenouva remained inhabited only slightly until the 15th century.
