Fontenay (Vosges)

Fontenay is a commune of 512 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges in Lorraine. It belongs to the district Epinal, in the canton of Bruyeres and community association Arentèle - Durbion - Padozel.

Geography

The municipality of Fontenay is located 13 kilometers north-east of Epinal, capital (prefecture) of the department of Vosges. The nearly seven -square-mile municipality of Fontenay stretches along the edge of a far -flung to the southwest spur of the Vosges. Due to the extensive settlement of the Ruisseau de Fontenay, a tributary of the Durbion, which drains to the Moselle flows. The Ruisseau des Bolottes in the southeast of the village flows through the Saint- Oger the Moselle. The highest elevation is 492 meters above sea level in the heavily forested south of the municipality ( Forêt Communale de Fontenay, as part of the great Forêt d' Epinal ). In the north there are large forest areas (Les Gotteaux, Hombois, Les Bouxaux ). Almost a third of the municipal area (230 ha) is forest.

Neighboring towns of Fontenay -sur- Durbion Girecourt are in the north, Méménil in the east, Le Roulier in the south, the west and Aydoilles Dompierre in the northwest.

History

During the Ancien Régime, the village of Fontenay was partly under the spell of the community or the community Vaudicourt Dompierre and was part of the Bailiwick of Bruyeres. Later Fontenay belonged to the municipality Aydoilles. It was dissolved in September 1793 Aydoilles and an independent municipality. Ecclesiastical Fontenay was a branch of the parish Aydoilles. The chapter Remiremont received two -thirds of the tithes.

Economy and infrastructure

In Fontenay there is next to farms smaller than 18 trade, craft and service companies. In addition, many residents commute to the nearby industrial town of Epinal.

In the north- west of the village, the highway runs from Epinal to Saint -Dié -des-Vosges (D 420 or former RN 420). Other roads connect Fontenay Méménil and Dompierre. Railway connections are made in the near transport nodes Epinal.
