Vagney

Vagney is a commune with 4024 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Epinal, in the canton of Saulxures -sur -Moselotte and community association VALLONS you bouchot et du Rupt.

Geography

The community Vagney in the Vosges is located at the Moselotte, ten kilometers east of the city Remiremont seen large-scale between Epinal and Mulhouse, in the southeast of Lorraine.

The almost 25 km ² comprehensive municipality of Vagney includes part of the Moselottetales, the lower portions of the side valleys of Lemont and bouchot and outreaching to the northeast and south of shares in the mountains on either side of Moselotte. The mountain streams flow in Lemont and bouchot Vagney in the Moselotte whose valley is expanded up to 1500 meters in the mouth regions. The settlement cores of Vagney and the northern district of Crémanvillers lie on the left bank of the Moselotte, the southern district of Zainvillers located on both sides of the river.

In the southwestern and northeastern tip of the municipality area will reach the highest points each 820 meters above the sea. The higher mountain country is densely forested and is one of the forest areas Forêt de Longegoutte and Forêt d' Housseramont.

The approximately 400 meter high Moselottetal is marked outside the generously populated areas of agricultural land. Characteristic of the upper valleys of Lemont and bouchot is the change from forest and pasture areas.

Neighboring communities of Vagney are La Bresse in the north, Sapois in the northeast, Gerbamont in the east, Basse -sur -le- Rupt the southeast, Thiéfosse in the south, and Vecoux Dommartin- lès- Remiremont in the southwest and Le Syndicat in the West.

History

The name Vagney could graze descended from the German word. Another theory proposes that a Wado ( Latinized Wadinius ) as Germanic namesake. About Wahiniaco (11th century), and Vainiaco Wainiers (12th century) and Vachegney (14th century) was so gradual the present name.

The area around Vagney was settled slowly clearing from the 7th century. It played like the entire Vosges space monks and monasteries founded a central role. The individual hamlet, from which the place Vagney emerged were created flooding safely. The town was the center of the same large-scale ban, which also includes the now autonomous communities Gerbamont, Basse -sur -le- Rupt, Rochesson, Saint- Amé and Saulxures included. At the beginning of the 17th century Vagney was known for its horse breeding. 1634 the plague raged in Vagney, many farming sites were abandoned. The district Malaide ( = ill ) between Vagney and Sapois still recalls this event. The farming was restricted to the Moselottetal, many residents earned their living as shepherds, woodcutters or Steinbrecher.

As of 1830, the textile industry came into the Moselottetal. Lean -Baptiste Flageollet founded in what is now the district Zainvillers at a water mill first factory. In the spinning and weaving was carried out in 1860 around the clock and at the beginning of the 20th century worked more than 40 % of the population Vagneys in the textile mills. The company's founder Flageollet cared for workers' housing, schools, kindergartens, hospices and promoted the creation of sports clubs.

1842, the Town Hall, 1848, the girls' school and in 1909 the post office was built. In 1879, had Vagney and Zainvillers connection to the railway line Remiremont Cornimont, which was closed in 1992.

During World War II one-fifth of the houses Vagneys was destroyed. A memorial remembers those who died during the two world wars.

The community Vagney has grown steadily since the 1960s, partly at the expense of the surrounding communities.

Economy and infrastructure

Agriculture today plays only a minor role. In Vagney two textile companies have maintained. Furthermore, smaller craft trade and construction companies as well as a mechanical engineering company based in the community. In recent years, the tourism offerings have been significantly expanded in and around Vagney.

Vagney is kindergarten and school location also for the surrounding communities.
