Hadol

Hadol is a commune with 2303 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Epinal, in the canton of Xertigny and community association Voge vers les Rives de la Moselle.

Geography

The community Hadol is an average of 500 meters above the sea on the high plateau of the Voge, about ten kilometers south of the city of Epinal. The Ruisseau des Nauves drains the area around Hadol the upper Moselle.

The almost 50 km ², the municipality covers not only the main town Hadol the districts Buzegney, Géroménil, Grandfaing, Guménil, La Houssière, Le Digneul, Le Roulier, Les Etangs and Senade.

The landscape is mostly dominated by farmland, while with the Forêt de Tillonhaie and the Bois du Haumont extends a large, contiguous forest area in the south of the church.

Neighboring communities of Hadol Arches are in the north and east, Raon -aux -Bois in the southeast, Xertigny in the southwest, and Uzemain Uriménil in the west and Dounoux in the northwest.

History

The name Hadol goes back to the Germanic over-molded Celtic term Hha, of as much as barren, dry soil meant; Do was called a hill. Over the centuries, the spelling of the place changed often: it was from Haidors about Haidois, Hadoz, Haidous, Haido, Haidolz, Hardo, adoy, Haidoz, Haydo, Haidol, Hadon, Adou, Hadol, Hadolia, Haidot, Haddal, Hadeau Hadot and finally Hadol. It is interesting that the place is now called in the local dialect Hado.

In the year 1005, which is considered the founding year of the municipality ( the millennium celebrations in 2005 ), a tower was built on a spur that allowed a wide view to the east. At this point, the church was later built. Under the porch of the church you will find the probably incised with a spear inscription " Cette tour a été pour la première fois en fondée l'an 1005 ' ( This tower was first founded in 1005 ).

Hadol belonged to 1580 and from 1653 to 1680 for today's neighboring community of Arches.

In the Thirty Years' War in 1630 Hadol experienced the invasion of Sweden. During a plague epidemic of the later canonized priest Pierre Fourier worked in Hadol and environment.

Infrastructure

Country roads, star-shaped in the neighboring communities Hadols. The national road 434 ( Epinal Vesoul ) leads west past Hadol. The nearby railway station is on the railway line Dounoux Nancy- Belfort, which is operated by the Company TER Lorraine.

Hadol is home to two elementary schools ( Ecole du Centre and École de Geromenil ) and a kindergarten.
