Fresse-sur-Moselle

Face -sur -Moselle is a commune with 1811 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges of Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Epinal, in the canton of La Bresse and founded in 2006, Local Government Association, the Ballons des Hautes Vosges et de la Source de la Moselle.

Geography

The community face on the upper Moselle is located in the Vosges Mountains in the far southeast of Lorraine and bordered to the south of the region of Franche -Comté. The nearest large city Remiremont is 25 kilometers away.

The municipality of face -sur -Moselle extends from the valley of the Mosel, which is about 400 meters wide here, up to the ridge lines north and south of the village. In the north of the parish to rise up to 1060 meters high mountains, the highest elevation in the municipal area is achieved with 1190 meters ( Tête de Noireboche ) in the south. This is also the watershed to the basin of the Rhone. About half of the 18.4 km ² municipal area is covered by forests, which belong to the forest areas Bois de Maxéromont and Bois de la Fonderie. The Elevation of the Moselle valley of over 500 meters can hardly be economic crops, therefore dominant in the valley and lower slopes of pastures.

Neighboring communities of face -sur -Moselle are Le Menil the north, Bussang in the east, Saint- Maurice- sur -Moselle to the southeast, Haut-du - Them -Château -Lambert in the southwest and La Bresse in the West.

History

Already in Roman times led the way from Metz to Basel on the upper Moselle valley and thus by mouth. The place belonged face before the French Revolution to spell Ramon Champ

Until the mid- 19th century, the inhabitants lived by the livestock while the peasants earned as a lumberjack, craftsmen, carpenters, shoemakers wood or teamster their maintenance.

Around the middle of the 19th century, the employment structure changed in mouth and in the surrounding communities of the upper Moselle valley, originated as a small spinning and weaving. The textile industry experienced its decline in the 1970s.

At the border of the municipality of Saint -Maurice- sur -Moselle, the commercial area Pont Jean ( ZA du ) was established.

The high traffic Route Nationale 66 ( European Route 512) of Epinal on the Col de Bussang to Mulhouse performs face -sur -Moselle.
