Golbey

Golbey is a commune in the Vosges department in Lorraine. It belongs to the district Epinal, Epinal to Canton -Ouest and the 2012 re-oriented community association Agglomà d' Epinal.

With 8246 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) is Golbey after Epinal, Saint- Dié -des-Vosges Gerardmer and the fourth- largest municipality in the department of Vosges.

Geography

The community lies just north Golbey Épinals, the capital (prefecture) of the department of Vosges. The settlement area Golbeys is grown together with Epinal in several places. Also to the south-west adjacent Chantraine and Chavelot in the north there are overarching domestic and commercial areas.

The approximately nine and a half square kilometers of the municipality of Golbey comprises the area between the Moselle, the Golbey limited to the east and to the northwest gradually increasing forest area of ​​the Forêt de Souche - Thaon where the community has a 150 hectare large proportion.

Right through Golbey leads the Canal des Vosges whose level is raised here by the flight of locks Golbey with 15 locks from the Moselle valley to the summit level by 44 meters.

History

The recent history of Golbey is closely connected with the textile industry. 1891 was a first big spinning here. The La Gosse called factory was founded by Adolphe Vogel Weith, a former engineer from Alsace. The company has been constantly expanded and counted in 1914 over 400 employees. Many houses in Golbey date from this period were built as new housing estates.

Around 1930, the company had specialized in the production of fine cotton yarns and over 500 employees. Even after the Second World War, the operation survived with only minor damage was further modernized. Despite increasing international competition, the textile industry in Golbey was used until the 1990s. After outsourcing, partial sales, restructuring and layoffs in 1997, the last machines were installed with a part of the workforce in the near Saint- Nabord. Thus ended a long tradition in Golbey. The loss, which can be visually determined to make brownfields, has hitherto only partially offset by new business.

Transport links

The close cooperation with Epinal Golbey is connected by highways with all the surrounding areas. To extend the two-lane Route nationale ( National Road ) 57 (E 23) from Metz to Besancon Epinal, the department of roads D 46 (after Rambervillers ) and D 166 (after Neufchâteau ) by the municipality of Golbey. The railway line Nancy- Epinal - Remiremont, which is operated by the Company TER Lorraine, though runs right through Golbey, by its proximity to Epinal has the community but no breakpoint.
