John W. Kendall

John Wilkerson Kendall ( born June 26, 1834 Morgan County, Kentucky; † 7 March 1892 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. In the years 1891 and 1892, he represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Kendall attended the common schools and the Owingsville Academy. After a subsequent law degree in 1854 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began practicing in this profession in West Liberty. Between 1854 and 1858 Kendall acted as prosecutor in Morgan County. During the Civil War he was a lieutenant in a cavalry unit in the army of the Confederacy.

Politically, Kendall was a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1867 and 1871 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Kentucky. After that, he was from 1872 to 1878 Attorney in the 13th Judicial District of Kentucky. In the congressional elections of 1890 he was elected the tenth constituency of his state in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of John Henry Wilson on March 4, 1891. But Kendall could only exercise for about a year its mandate. He died on 7 March 1892 as a congressman in the federal capital, Washington and was buried in West Liberty. In a by-election from his position fell to his son Joseph.
