Samuel L. Casey

Samuel Lewis Casey (* February 12, 1821 in Caseyville, Union County, Kentucky; † August 25, 1902 in Saint Joseph, Missouri ) was an American politician. In the years 1862 and 1863, he represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Samuel Casey attended the public schools of his home. He was then engaged in trade and in politics. April 4, 1853 to December 22, 1859, he has held in the U.S. Treasury the post of Treasurer of the United States. Between 1860 and 1862 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Kentucky. After the exclusion of deputies Henry Cornelius Burnett, who had fought openly in Congress for the cause of the Confederate States, Casey was a Unionist in the first electoral district of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became March 10, 1862 its new mandate.

By March 3, 1863 Casey finished the opened legislature of his predecessor. This was marked by the events of the Civil War. After the end of his short time in the U.S. House of Representatives, he withdrew again from politics and devoted himself to his private affairs. Samuel Casey died on 25 August 1902 in Saint Joseph.
