Districts of Switzerland

In contrast to centrally organized states of the sub- state is in the federally constituted Switzerland completely free in its internal organization. Waiver of districts in twelve cantons, reducing the number districts in other cantons

Twelve of the 26 cantons refrain entirely from district level (understood as an administrative unit between the canton and municipalities ):

The land area of the canton of Lucerne is 1429.17 km ². The Seeflächenanteil is 64.34 km ² ( 14.36 km ² Sempach, Baldeggersee 5.24 km ², shares: 40.79 km ² Lake Lucerne, Zug 2.42 km ² and Hallwilersee 1.53 km ²). The total area of the canton is thus 1493.51 km ².
