Fayette County (Alabama)

The Fayette County is a county located in the state of Alabama in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Fayette. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern Alabama, is located in the west about 50 miles from Mississippi and has an area of 1630 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Marion County, Walker County, Tuscaloosa County, Pickens County and Lamar County.

History

Fayette County was formed on December 20, 1824 from parts of Tuscaloosa County and Marion County. It was named after General Lafayette, who moved through the area to assist George Washington in the American Revolutionary War at the time the county education with his troops.
