Bibb County (Alabama)
Bibb County is a county located in the state of Alabama in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Centreville. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Geography
The County is located just north-west of the geographic center of Alabama has an area of 1822 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Jefferson County, Shelby County, Chilton County, Perry County, Hale County and Tuscaloosa County.
History
Bibb County was formed on February 7, 1818 from parts of Monroe County and Montgomery County as Cahawba County. On December 4, 1820 in Bibb County was renamed in honor of the first governor of Alabama, William Wyatt Bibb.

According to the census of 2000, there were 20 826 people in Bibb County. Of these, 1,239 people lived in collective centers, the other residents living in 7,421 households and 5,580 families. The population density was 13 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 76.66 percent White, 22.20 percent Black or African American, 0.24 percent Native American, 0.08 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.29 percent from other races groups; 0.51 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.01 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 7,421 households out of which 34.4 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. In 58.4 percent lived married couples living together, 12.7 percent were single mothers, 24.8 percent were non-families, 22.1 percent of all households were single-person households and 9.4 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or above. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.08 persons.
25.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.5 percent between 18 to 24, 30.9 percent between 25 and 44, 22.7 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.6 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 106.6 males and females age 18 and over, there 107 men.
The median income for a household was $ 31,420, and the median income for a family $ 37,230. Males have a median income of $ 30,413, women $ 21,070. The per capita income was $ 14,105. 14.9 percent of families and 20.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
