World Table Tennis Championships

The World Table Tennis Championships ( TT -WM) are held every year, in the years with an odd number years the Individual World Championships and in the even years, the World Team Championships. Is organized by the ITTF.

For each TT Championship ITTF Congress meets (Annual General Meeting) and advises on the TT rules. Amendments shall be adopted by this body.

History

The first TT World Cup was played in 1926 in London. In 1928 the World Cup was held in every year. Because of the Second World War, the World Cup of 1940 was suspended until 1946. In 1947 in Paris again the 1- year intervals, from 1957, began the two -year cycle. By the year 1997, the individual and team World Championships took place in an event at the same time. After initially canceled due to the political problems of 1999 World Cup in Belgrade and the separation into two events there were transitional solutions. Since 2003, the individual and team World championships are held now separated because the joint event was only difficult to manage due to increasing numbers of participants. In even years, the World Team Championship takes place in odd-numbered years, the title is played out in the individual competitions.

A special situation arose in 1999 when the ITTF Yugoslavia, the implementation of the World Cup eluded because it looked endangered due to the Kosovo War, the safety of the participants. Eindhoven took over the short term orientation of the individual competitions, the World Team Championships a year later was caught up in Kuala Lumpur.

1982 Senior World Championships (World Veterans Table Tennis Championships ) were first held in 2003 was the first time a World Junior Championships in Santiago, Chile, instead.

Special prices

The world champion in the men's individual receives the St. Bride Vase, a trophy, which was donated in 1929 by C.Corti Woodcock (member of London's St. Bride Table Tennis Club and at times President of the English Table Tennis Association ETTA ). Senior World Championships

Since 1982, every two years instead of the Senior World Championships (World Veterans Table Tennis Championships ), which are organized by the Swaythling Club International.
