Bouxières-aux-Bois

Bouxières -aux -Bois is a commune in the Vosges department of the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Epinal, to Canton Dompaire and in 2000 founded Kommunalverband Secteur de Dompaire.

Geography

The 127 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) scoring community Bouxières -aux -Bois is situated 14 kilometers north- west of Epinal in the hill country between the Moselle and Madon.

The terrain in the municipality increases gradually from east to west and reaches the southwest corner near the Croix de Virine a height of 443 meters above sea level. About 40 % of the municipality attributable to forest areas.

Neighboring communities of Bouxières -aux -Bois are Regney and Saint- Vallier in the north, Frizon in the northeast, Mazeley the southeast, Bocquegney in the south, southwest, and Derbamont Circourt in the west.

History

The name first appears in the 11th century. In the ancien régime the spell Bouxières was, together with the churches today Madegney and Regney the Bailiwick Darney,

The parish in Bouxières was part of the church in the neighboring Derbamont and was subject to section Remiremont. The present church building was erected in 1802, the mayor's house ( Mairie ) was built in 1821.
