Boxing at the 2008 Summer Olympics

The XXIX. 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, the competitions were held in boxes in eleven weight classes. The first qualifying competition was the 2007 World Championships in Chicago. This qualified in the nine lowest weight classes the best eight boxers and in the two highest, the best four. So here a total of 16; During the ensuing single continental knockouts could be after a pre- set by the AIBA continents ratio, the other 20 ( in the lower nine weight classes, a total of 28 fighters per weight class ) or twelve ( in the top two weight classes fighters per weight class) qualify fighters. There were two wild cards awarded by the IOC and by the AIBA to states from which no athletes have qualified for the Olympic Games 2008. Thus, a total number of 286 participating athletes revealed. The two wild cards were awarded in June 2008 to Simanga Shiba from Swaziland in the light flyweight and Rolande Moses of Grenada in the welterweight division.
