Dommartin-lès-Remiremont

Dommartin- lès- Remiremont is a commune with 1836 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Epinal, in the canton of Remiremont and community association Porte des Hautes- Vosges.

Geography

The community Dommartin- lès- Remiremont at the confluence of the Moselle and Moselotte is located three kilometers southeast of the city Remiremont, large-scale seen in the southwestern and southeastern Vosges Lorraine.

The 21.8 km ² comprehensive municipality of Dommartin- lès- Remiremont extends from the left Moselotte - shore, which forms the northern boundary of the municipality, on the Moselle valley to the mountain regions on both sides of the Moselle. The Taldreieck at the Moselottemündung is about 500 hectares in size, has a low gradient and is crossed by numerous bayous and drainage ditches. The population center of Dommartin been flood-proof and slightly away from the mouth of the Moselotte invested in the Mosel. The southwest of the municipal area to the right of Mosel extends to the Rhine-Rhône watershed with heights up to 740 meters above the sea. The forested southeast half of the municipality area is also mountainous and reaches 842 m on a plateau, the highest point of the municipality. In the extreme southeast of the two small mountain lakes Etang de la besace and Etang le Grand lie to almost 700 meters.

The approximately 390 meters, the Moselle valley is characterized as well as the Moselottetal at the level Dommartin of agricultural land. The built-up area extends in an arc at the edge of the valley and along the roads. The to Dommartin- lès- Remiremont belonging districts Franould and La Poirie have now grown together. The densely forested area in the southeast part of the 20 km ² Forêt de Longegoutte.

Neighboring communities of Dommartin- lès- Saint- Amé Remiremont are in the north, Le Syndicat and Vagney in the east, and Vecoux Rupt -sur -Moselle in the south, Girmont -Val- D'Ajol in the southwest and Saint- Étienne- lès- Remiremont in the West.

History

Dommartin first appeared in 1296 in connection with the Ban de Longchamp in a document on that belonged to the sphere of influence of the chapter Remiremont. The Ban de Longchamp included next to the vicarage Dommartin the settlements Franould, Poirie, Vecoux and Reherrey well as the places in the church today Rupt -sur -Moselle.

The area was, however, already inhabited in prehistoric times, as evidenced by ax and core findings of the years 1970 and 1976.

From Louis the Pious is narrated that he pursued during his stays in Remiremont with his entourage in the woods around Dommartin.

Dommartin had a parish, which was under until the French Revolution the abbey Remiremont already in the Carolingian period. The church was originally dedicated to St. Martin ( Dominus Martinus ), which explains the place name Dommartin. The present church of Saint- Laurent dates from the 16th or 17th century. Some items such as a statue of the Virgin and Child, as well as relics from the 15th century.

In the turmoil of the French Revolution, the church was closed temporarily and Dommartin was named the Martin- Libre. After 1790 came out of the Ban Longchamp the two communities Dommartin and Rupt -sur -Moselle forth. 1858 the southeastern part of the municipality of Dommartin was separated and the community Vecoux re-formed.

Demographics

The community Dommartin- lès- Remiremont has grown steadily since the 1960s, partly at the expense of nearby small town Remiremont.

Economy and infrastructure

In addition to agriculture and forestry also the craft, industry and tourism plays a role in the community. Thus, the municipality has a bakery, a butcher and grocery stores, a cheese factory and three restaurants.

Dommartin is kindergarten and primary school location.

Transport links

The high traffic Route Nationale 66 ( European Route 512) of Epinal on the Col de Bussang to Mulhouse leads from the nucleus separately on the left bank of the Moselle along. Dommartin on the right bank of the Moselle is connected by road with the neighboring communities Remiremont, Vecoux, Le Syndicat and the 550 meter high Col de Chenau with Vagney. At the disused railway lines of Remiremont after Bussang or after Vagney today still remembers the street name Rue de la Gare.
