Viménil

Viménil is a commune in the Vosges department in Lorraine. It belongs to the district Epinal, founded the canton of Bruyeres and to the 2003 Local Government Association Arentèle - Durbion - Padozel.

Geography

The 222 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) scoring Viménil community located on the edge of the Vosges, about halfway between the cities of Epinal and Saint- Dié -des- Vosges.

Through the municipal area of ​​the Durbion, a tributary of the Moselle flows. History

In 1343 the site first appeared in records as a Waymesnillo. Twenty years later they wrote the village Wasmaisnil. It is assumed that the prefix goes back to a Germanic name ( Wazu ). Maisnil or mesnil is a common place name which stands for small farm or small farm. The name changed from Wyesineusim year 1402 Vymaingnel ( 1455 ), Vyemesni ( 1487 ), Wimenil ( 1564) and Vymesnil (1594 ) to Voismesnil in the year 1656. Since 1753 Viménil form is in use.

Viménil originally belonged to the Bailiwick of Bruyeres and was part of the spell of Dompierre. The parish Viménil was an annex of the parish of today's neighboring community Gugnécourt. 1767 St. James Church ( Église Saint -Jacques -le- Majeur ) was the first of its three bells. She weighed 277 kg and a diameter of 78 cm. 1793 was followed by the second bell ( 384 kg and 87 cm diameter) and until 1861, the third and largest bell ( 485 kg and 94 cm diameter).
