The Schuyler County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2010, the County had 7544 inhabitants and a population density of 6.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Rushville.

Geography

The County is located in western Illinois on the right bank of the Illinois River, about 50 km east of the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Missouri and Iowa. History

The Schuyler County was formed as a 31 County in Illinois from parts of Pike County on 13 January 1825. It was named for Philip Schuyler, a general in the American Revolutionary War and U.S. Senator from New York.

1826 Rushville was elected after 20 rounds of voting as the administrative headquarters. In the same year, the first courthouse was built. On January 18, 1827 County received the first post office. The former prison is now a museum.
