Christian County (Illinois)

The Christian County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2010, the County had 34,800 inhabitants and a population density of 18.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Taylorsville.

Geography

The County is located just south of the center of Illinois on the left bank of the Sangamon River. It has an area of 1854 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers are water surface. To the Christian County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

On February 15, 1839 the Sangamon, Montgomery and Shelby County, the Dane County was formed from parts. It was named after the Congress Member Nathan Dane of Massachusetts. On 2 March 1840, was renamed in Christian County. This name was chosen because the majority of settlers from the Christian County in Kentucky came from. 1900, the County had 32,700 inhabitants.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Christian County 34,800 people in 14,005 households. The population density was 18.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 14,005 households lived statistically 2.33 per person.
