Tazewell County (Illinois)
The Tazewell County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. In the census in 2010, the County had 135 394 inhabitants and a population density of 80.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Pekin, which is named after the Chinese capital Beijing.
Geography
The County is located north-west of the geographic center of Illinois on the left bank of the Illinois River. It has an area of 1704 square kilometers, of which 23 square kilometers are water surface. At the Tazewell County borders the following Nachbarcountys:
History
The Tazewell County was formed on January 31, 1827 from parts of Peoria County and Fayette counties. It was named for Littleton Waller Tazewell, a lawyer, delegates of Virginia, U.S. Senator and Governor 27 of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The first white settlers should be 1680 Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle was that with 33 other people in January on the east bank of the Illinois River ashore here and a small camp near the present city of Pekin built, so that the group could hibernate.
