Le Val-d'Ajol

Le Val- D'Ajol is a commune with 3999 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Epinal, in the canton of Plombières- les- Bains and is the seat of the municipal association Vosges méridionales.

Geography

The Municipality of Le Val- D'Ajol is located on the southwestern edge of the Vosges, about halfway between the cities of Remiremont and Luxeuil -les- Bains, seen large-scale between Epinal, Belfort and Vesoul.

With 73.33 km ² Le Val- D'Ajol is the largest by area of the 515 municipalities of the department. The municipality is bordered to the west, the south and east by the region of Franche -Comté and includes a 500-760 meter high-altitude mountain country which is interrupted by the deep valley of the Combeauté. The Combeauté drained by the Semouse that, while the north-eastern boundary of the municipality forms Lanterne and the Saône to the Rhône and thereby to the Mediterranean, the European main watershed to the Mosel and Rhine.

Forests cover about 40 % of the municipal area, particularly in the northeast and southeast ( Forêt d' Hérival ) and on the western escarpment Combeauté ( Bois du Chanot ). The agricultural areas exist in the valleys of fields, at higher altitudes of pasture land.

The municipality has a very loosened settlement character outside the core village. The municipality includes the villages and hamlets Courupt, Faymont, Hamanxard, Hérival, La Battelieule, La Croisette, La Feuillée Dorothée, La Gailland, Larrière, La Ville, Le Hariol, Le Petit Moulin, Le Pré Bosson, Le Roulier, Olichamp and Rapaumont. Among the many mountain farms are many partially single standing houses.

Neighboring communities of Le Val- Saint- Nabord D'Ajol are in the north, and Remiremont Saint -Étienne- lès- Remiremont in the northeast, Girmont -Val- D'Ajol to the east, La Longine in the Southeast, Saint- Bresson to the south, in Fougerolles west and Plombières- les- Bains in the northwest.

History

Was also of significance for the environment, the Prieuré d' Hérival, a priory, which was built around 1080 and 1800 destroyed. Only the guest house of the priory still exists today. Hérival as well as the present territory of the municipality belonged to the sphere of influence of the chapter Remiremont. The place Hérival belonged until 1832 to Girmont -Val- D'Ajol before he was Le Val- D'Ajol slammed.

Four years before the end of the Thirty Years' War (1618 - 1648) Le Val- D'Ajol was destroyed by the troops of Turenne. Since 1697 the municipality belongs to Lorraine final. She was up to the French Revolution part of the Bailiwick of Remiremont.

The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption ( Notre- Dame de l' Assomption ) with a statue at the main portal was 1735 instead of an earlier church. The Parish in the Val d' Ajol has long been the Dean's Office in the Diocese of Besançon Luxeuil connected before they came to the Diocese of Saint- Dié in 2000.

The school building (L' école Sainte- Marie) was built in 1896.

1881 got the community a railway connection. The line ran 16.7 miles from Corbenay to the terminus in the district Faymont. 1949, the passenger has been set, the entire operation was shut down in 1991. The tracks have been removed and partially replaced by nau biking trails. At the former railway station of Le Val- D'Ajol still remembers the street name Avenue de la Gare.

Demographics

Le Val- D'Ajol was from the mid- 19th to early 20th century, with over 7,000 inhabitants according to Epinal and Saint- Dié -des-Vosges, the third largest municipality in the department of Vosges. The downward trend of population growth continues today unabated.

Economy and infrastructure

In Le Val- D'Ajol numerous craft and service companies are located. On the RN 57 the industrial area was Z.I. La Croisette furnished. Part of the population is employed in the tourism industry, some employed workers commute to the neighboring communities.

In the Le Val- D'Ajol Many hiking trails and a mountain bike route are shown, in the winter trails are groomed. In addition to numerous holiday houses there are in the community several hotels, inns and B & Bs.

Transport links

Through the west of the municipality is the partially -developed two-lane RN leads 57 from Epinal to Besançon (part of European route 23 from Metz to Lausanne). The main road through the village of Le Val- D'Ajol runs along the valley of Combeauté Remiremont after Fougerolles. More roads lead to neighboring communities Girmont -Val- D'Ajol and Plombières- les- Bains.
