Gruey-lès-Surance

Gruey -lès- Surance is a commune with 253 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Epinal, in the canton of Bains- les- Bains and the Local Government Association, founded in 2006 ( Communauté de communes ) Val de Voge.

Geography

Gruey -lès- Surance is situated at an average altitude of 425 m above sea level, 10 km north- west of Bains- les -Bains, 22 km southeast of Vittel in the extreme south of Lorraine on the border region of Franche -Comté.

The 27.1 km ² large municipality located on the plateau of Voge between the upper Saône Valley and the valley of Coney. On the high plateau flow the streams Ruisseau d' Heuillon and Ruisseau du Houe, which unite in Gruey -lès- Surance to Coney inflow Ruisseau de Gruey. In the northwest of the municipality is the source of Ourche, the first significant tributary of the Saône and the southwest of the Ruisseau des Cerisiers forms the border with the region of Franche -Comté.

The high- surface is used for agriculture, while the slopes in the south ( Bois de Mont Roche) and west consist ( Forêt de Darney Domaniale ) of the municipality of forests. The Forêt de Darney Domaniale is one of the largest contiguous areas of mixed forest in the Vosges. In the south of the municipality of the terrain drops at a stage of about 80 meters. North of the village core is the ca 3 acre dammed pond Etang des Cerisiers. This designation also carries another pond in the southwest of the community.

The place Gruey -lès- Surance has two settlement axes: the north-south axis ( Route de Darney, Rue Marcel Brégier ) sits on the main axis of the Rue de l' Église T-shaped.

To Gruey -lès- Surance includes the villages and hamlets Jérusalem, Le Hatrey, Moscou and Surance.

Neighboring communities of Gruey -lès- Surance are Grandrupt -de- Bains in the north, La Haye and Harsault in the northeast, Hautmougey in the east, Fontenoy- le -Château in the south, southwest, and Hennezel Ambiévillers in the northwest.

History

The name first appears Gruey 1315 in a document. Until the French Revolution, the territory of the present municipality of the Bailiwick of Vesoul belonged in the Franche- Comté, changed in 1790 in the Canton of Bains- les -Bains, the then district Darney.

On June 4, 1842 was created by decree the community Gruey -lès- Surance from the place Gruey and the small hamlet Surance.

The Church of Our Lady of birth was built in 1873 and was until 2000 part of the diocese of Besançon Archidiakonates Faverney. The town hall with the school ( mairie- ecole ) was built in 1830, a girls' school in 1874 and a mixed school in 1881 in the small hamlet Moscou.

Demographics

With 253 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Gruey -lès- Surance one of the smaller communities of the department of Vosges. After a rapid population decline in the 1970s and 1980s, the population has been stable since the beginning of the 21st century years.
