Bledsoe County, Tennessee
Bledsoe County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Pikeville. After the county was named in 1955 the battleship USS Bledsoe County.
Geography
The County is located in the middle of the southeast Tennessee, is located in the south about 50 miles from Alabama and Georgia and has an area of 1053 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cumberland County, Rhea County, Hamilton County, Sequatchie County and Van Buren County.

History
Bledsoe County was formed on November 30, 1807 from parts of Roane County. It was named after Anthony Bledsoe, an early settler in the area.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Bledsoe County 12,367 people in 4,430 households and 3,313 families. The population density was 12 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 94.44 percent White, 3.70 percent African American, 0.38 percent Native American, 0.11 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.19 percent from other races groups; 1.15 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.12 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 4,430 households out of which 31.3 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.5 percent were married couples living together, 9.1 percent were single mothers and 25.2 percent were non-families. 22.1 percent of all households and 9.2 percent lived in persons aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average household size was 2.94 people.
23.1 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.4 percent between 18 to 24, 31.3 percent between 25 and 44, 25.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.4 percent were older than 65, the average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 121.0 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there 121.3 males.
The median income for a household was $ 28,982, and the median income for a family was $ 34,593. Males have a median income of $ 26,648, women $ 20,639. The per capita income was $ 13,889. 14.9 percent of families and 18.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
