Bledsoe County, Tennessee

Bledsoe County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Pikeville. After the county was named in 1955 the battleship USS Bledsoe County.

Geography

The County is located in the middle of the southeast Tennessee, is located in the south about 50 miles from Alabama and Georgia and has an area of 1053 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cumberland County, Rhea County, Hamilton County, Sequatchie County and Van Buren County.

History

Bledsoe County was formed on November 30, 1807 from parts of Roane County. It was named after Anthony Bledsoe, an early settler in the area.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Bledsoe County 12,367 people in 4,430 households and 3,313 families. The population density was 12 people per square kilometer.
