Washington County (Tennessee)

Washington County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Jonesborough.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme northeast of Tennessee and has an area of 854 square kilometers, of which nine square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Sullivan County, Carter County, Unicoi County, Greene County and Hawkins County.

History

Washington County was formed on November 15, 1777 Original from the Washington County District. It was named the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War and the first U.S. president to George Washington, commander.
