Monroe County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Madisonville.

Geography

The County is located in the east con Tennessee, bordering North Carolina and has an area of ​​1690 square kilometers, of which 46 square kilometers are water surface. History

Monroe County was formed on 13 November 1819 Cherokee Land. It was named after James Monroe, the fifth U.S. president.
