Rutherford County (Tennessee)
Rutherford County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Murfreesboro.
Geography
The County is located in the geographic center of Tennessee and has an area of 1616 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Wilson County, Cannon County, Coffee County, Bedford County, Marshall County, Williamson County and Davidson County. The Stones River National Battlefield is located in Rutherford County.

History
Rutherford County was formed on October 25, 1803 from parts of Davidson County. It was named after Griffin Rutherford, an early politician of the Southwest Territory.

According to the census in 2000, lived in Rutherford County 182 023 people in 66 443 households, and 47,440 families. The population density was 114 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 85.73 percent White, 9.51 percent African American, 0.29 percent Native American, 1.90 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 1.32 percent from other races groups; 1.20 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.78 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 66 443 households out of which 37.8 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.3 percent were married couples living together, 11.2 percent were single mothers and 28.6 percent were non-families. 20.8 percent of all households and 5.1 percent were living persons aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average household size was 3.09 people.
26.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 13.2 percent between 18 to 24, 33.5 percent between 25 and 44, 19.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 7.5 percent were older than 65, the average age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 99.1 males statistically every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.2 males.
The median income for a household was $ 46,312, and the median income for a family was $ 53,553. Males had a median income of $ 36,788, women $ 26,555. The per capita income was $ 19,938. 5.8 percent of families and 9.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
