Elijah V. Brookshire

Elijah Voorhees Brookshire (* August 15, 1856 in Ladoga, Montgomery County, Indiana, † April 14, 1936 in Seattle, Washington ) was an American politician. Between 1889 and 1895 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Elijah Brookshire attended the schools of his home and the Central Indiana Normal College, which he completed in 1878. Between 1879 and 1882 he worked as a teacher in Montgomery County. He also engaged in farming. After studying law and its made ​​in 1883 admitted to the bar, he began practicing in this profession in Crawfordsville. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. In the congressional elections of 1888 Brookshire was in the eighth election district of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of James T. Johnston on March 4, 1889. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1895 three legislative periods.

After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives Brookshire again worked as a lawyer. Since 1894 he was admitted in this capacity also in the Supreme Court of the United States. In 1925, Brookshire withdrew into retirement. Between 1925 and 1935 he lived in Los Angeles. He then moved to Seattle, where he died on 14 April 1936. Elijah Brookshire found his final resting place in the Harshbarger Cemetery near his birthplace Ladoga.
