John L. Robinson

John Larne Robinson ( May 3, 1813 near Maysville, Kentucky, † March 21, 1860 in Rushville, Indiana ) was an American politician. Between 1847 and 1853 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Robinson attended the public schools of his home. Later he moved to the Rush County, Indiana, where he worked in Milroy commercially. Between 1841 and 1845 he was employed as a county clerk in the county administration. Politically, Robinson joined the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1846 he was in the third electoral district of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Thomas Smith on March 4, 1847. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1853 three legislative periods. These were initially shaped by the events of the Mexican-American War. Since 1849, Robinson was chairman of the committee of roads and canals.

After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives John Robinson was U.S. Marshal for the southern part of the State of Indiana. This post he held from 1853 until his death. In addition, he was inspector in the fourth military district of Indiana. In the years 1856 to 1859 Robinson also served as curator of the Indiana University in Bloomington. He died on March 21, 1860 in Rushville, where he was also buried.
