Alexander M. Hardy

Alexander Merrill Hardy ( born December 16, 1847 in Simcoe, Ontario, Canada; † August 31, 1927 in Tonopah, Nevada ) was an American politician. Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Alexander Hardy grew up in his Canadian home. In 1864 he came to the United States, where he (New York) completed a commercial course at Eastman College, Poughkeepsie. From 1869 to 1873 he worked in New Orleans in the newspaper business. Then he moved to Natchez in Mississippi, where he edited a newspaper until 1877. He was also appointed director of the Port Authority. In 1884 he came to Washington in Indiana. After studying law and its made ​​in 1884 admitted to the bar he began in Terre Haute to work in this profession.

Politically, Hardy member of the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1894 he was in the second electoral district of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John L. Bretz on March 4, 1895. Since he has not been confirmed in 1896, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1897.

After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives Hardy practiced again as a lawyer in Washington ( Indiana). In 1904, he moved his office and his residence to Los Angeles in California. About Searchlight (Nevada ) and Salt Lake City (Utah ), he came in 1914 to Tonopah, where he continued to work as a lawyer. He was also active in mountain construction. Alexander Hardy died on August 31, 1927 in Tonopah, where he was also buried.
