Clarence C. Gilhams

Clarence Chauncey Gilhams (* April 11 1860 in Brighton, LaGrange County, Indiana, † June 5, 1912 in LaGrange, Indiana ) was an American politician. Between 1906 and 1909 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Clarence Gilhams attended the public schools of his home and then the State Normal School in Terre Haute. He subsequently worked as a teacher and trader. Between 1894 and 1902 he was auditor in LaGrange County. He was also active in life insurance business. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party.

Following the resignation of Mr Gilbert Newton Gilhams was at the due election for the twelfth seat of Indiana as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on November 6, 1906. After a re-election, he could remain until March 3, 1909 Congress. In 1908 Gilhams defeated Democrat Cyrus Cline. After studying law he was admitted in 1910 as a lawyer. He also continued to work in the insurance industry. Clarence Gilhams died on June 5, 1912 in LaGrange.
