Grundy County (Iowa)

The Grundy County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. In the census in 2010, the County had 12,453 inhabitants and a population density of 9.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Grundy Center.

Geography

The County is located north-east of the geographic center of Iowa and has an area of 1,302 square kilometers, without significant water surface. It borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Grundy County was formed on 15 January 1851 former parts of the Black Hawk County and was administered from 1856 itself. It was named for Felix Grundy (1775-1840), a former U.S. - Senator from Tennessee (1829-1838) and Federal Attorney General under President James K. Polk ( 1838-1840 ).

The first courthouse was built in 1861. It was a two-story wooden building with a courtroom, which was also used for other purposes, each with a space for the Sheriff, the finance officer, the judge as well as a consultation room for the jury. The foundation stone for the second courthouse was on 11 November 1891.
