The Des Moines County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Burlington.

Geography

The County is located in southeastern Iowa, and is bordered to the east by Illinois, from which it is separated by the Mississippi River. It has an area of 1,113 square kilometers, of which 35 square kilometers are water surface. At the Des Moines County borders the following counties:

History

Des Moines County was formed on 1 October 1834. It was named after the Des Moines River, up to the left bank, the County was still stretched.

Demographic data
