Taylor County (Iowa)

The Taylor County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. In the census in 2010, the County had 6,317 inhabitants and a population density of 4.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Bedford.

Geography

The County is located in southwest Iowa, on the south by Missouri and has an area of 1,385 square kilometers, of which two square miles are water. It borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Taylor County was formed in 1847 from parts of the former Page County. It was named the twelfth President of the United States (1849-1850) after Zachary Taylor (1784-1850), a general.

In 1851, a separate administration for the Taylor County was built in Bedford. After the administrative offices and rooms were housed for court hearings in the early years in private houses, in 1864 its own judicial and administrative buildings in Bedford was built.

In 1891 the present building was built of brick. This was aufgeneommen 1980 in the National Register of Historic Places.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Taylor County 6,317 people in 2,687 households. The population density was 4.6 people per square kilometer.

The racial the population was composed of 96.1 percent White, 0.1 percent Native American, 0.3 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 0.9 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 5.8 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

In the 2,687 households lived statistically 2.37 per person.

23.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 55.6 percent were between 18 and 64 and 21.0 percent were 65 years or older. 50.2 percent of the population was female.

The median income for a household was $ 40,300. The per capita income was $ 21,335. 11.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
