Webster County (Iowa)

The Webster County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. In the census in 2010, the County had 38 013 inhabitants and a population density of 20.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) Fort Dodge, named after the here previously existing fort which was in turn named after Henry Dodge, a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin.

Geography

The County is located just north-west of the geographic center of Iowa and is drained by the Des Moines River. It has an area of 1860 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers of water surface. At the Webster County borders the following counties:

History

The Webster County was formed on 15 January 1851. It was named after Daniel Webster (1782-1852), a former foreign minister of the United States.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2010 lived in Webster County 38 013 people in 15,936 households. The population density was 20.5 inhabitants per square kilometer.

The racial the population was composed of 92.3 percent white, 3.8 percent African American, 0.3 percent Native American, 0.6 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.8 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 3.8 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

In the 15,936 households lived statistically 2.33 per person.

22.1 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 61.2 percent were between 18 and 64 and 16.7 percent were 65 years or older. 48.8 percent of the population was female.

The median income for a household was $ 40,806. The per capita income was $ 22,653. 14.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
